more information about me

I am a second generation programmer and remember being transfixed by the whirring and clacking of the spinning tapes in the data processing center at my father’s work. I cut my first code on an HP 9825A and still have the code to prove it (complete with gotos).

My product development experience ranges from multi-threaded real-time applications and system drivers through to graphical user interfaces. This allows me to understand a system from end-to-end (from the packets to the pixels). I relish working in environments where a diversity of business and technology skills and roles are required, from dark-room programming to front-line support and technical training through to pre-sales and pricing.

Having been involved in a number of projects from beginning to end, I am especially cognisant of how important the ‘human factor’ is in software development. A successful software project requires the collaboration of people from different backgrounds and skill levels to achieve an end-product that often has to be understood and interpretedby a human end-user. My aim is to see software that I helped todevelop have a positive real-world application. Of course, as this sites attests, this is best achieved by using an adaptive software development approach.

When I am not knee-deep in software development, I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as snowboarding or surfing or other activities involving film, food or travel.
